Puzzle situation

A child actively sought to be adopted by a married couple, and each spouse separately celebrated his arrival. After he moved in, the husband acted strangely. He often stared blankly at the wall, repeatedly made excuses to enter and leave the child's room, and looked at the child with unusual intensity. The wife also looked at the child strangely, often watching him in a trance. Many photographs of the wife were pasted on the wall of the child's room. One day she tore those photographs to pieces, exposing what lay behind them. Before long, two corpses were left in that house.
